Next scrimmage

Is this coming Wednesday.
Hope as many of you can come as possible and bring along friends too :)

This week's paddling

Hi all,
Looks like we may get a fair bit of rain and some thunderstorms at Monday's practice.
Will move it indoors if that's the case - you should show up at the Millvale Boathouse at 5:30 p.m. still.

There's also been a standing invitation from the Paddlers for Peace group that meets on Thursdays for the next four weeks (from Aug 23rd onwards). Contact me if you want more information.

Cheers!

Practice this Wednesday (7/18)

Will be at the Washington's Landing boat house.

We'll be taking kayaks out.

It does look like the weather may not cooperate for on-the-water activities, and if that is the case, we'll do an indoor workout (some light erg pieces and group 'core' excercises... more fun than it sounds on paper, I promise!)

See you there.

Middle Yough Rafting Trip - July 14th

Here is information for our Middle Yough rafting trip next Saturday, July 14th.
The outfitters name is Wilderness Voyagers and their telephone number is 800-272-4141 in case you have any questions.
There is a 10:00 slot and a 12:00 slot - each of these times would require us to be there a half hour in advance (9:30 and 11:30) in order to make the shuttle.

To rent a single duckie is $30.00
To rent a raft is $22.50 per person and the raft will hold four people.

I will need to call and make reservations by Tuesday, July 10th, in order to reserve a slot.

Emily and I can be available for either time - so whatever works best for everyone else.

Mr. Edwards Makes Jr Team

Veteran team member Mr. Erik Edwards made the Jr National Sprint Kayak team on Friday. Tryouts were held at Lake Placid, New York. Erik is one of seven members selected. He will spend the summer training at the Olympic Training Center and traveling with the Jr National team to races, potentially to Jr Worlds in Chekislovakia.

Mr. Edwards has been kayaking for six years and has made significant progress in the last two years. Since last years nationals he has been training mostly on his own in Pittsburgh, he trained for some time with the DC team and at the Olympic Center in San Diego.

Erik helped the Jr Team win the D final at the Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Races June 16.

Go Mr E, Mama Edwards must be proud.

Practices - week of July 2

Hi all,
Just to confirm what the plans are for this coming week.

Monday (7/2), 5:30-6:00 p.m. We will have regular practice.
Am still waiting to hear back as to whether someone will be shooting video footage of us. Please make it if you can! (and look pretty... [if you can! ha!])

Wednesday (7/4). No regular practice. HOWEVER,
If you are free to, you should definitely come down to the Pittsburgh Regatta at Station Square. We will be taking out dragon boats between 2-4 p.m. in order to demonstrate the sport at the regatta.

It'd be great to have a good representation of the Junior Team there. Turn up at Station Square at 1:30 p.m. on July 4 if you want to participate, and please email me if you know for sure that you'll be going.

Rowing erg: 2,000m

See you there.
